Cuts include most of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusiveness Department, whose responsibilities, the district says, will be absorbed by Student Services.
Part of the district’s revenue decline is due to dropping enrollment, but board member Ravi Shah said during Tuesday night's meeting it’s also due to state budget cuts.
"If you take in inflation that the state has pushed onto our school districts and public education at a tune of about 5 or 6% budget cuts that we've been seeing after inflation, and so we need to make some tough decisions," he said.
Cutting the positions along with continuing a hiring freeze through the end of the fiscal year, on June 30, will save about $8.5 million in the current and next year fiscal budget.
