AZ Secretary of State Adrian Fontes announce re-election bid

The announcement comes after Fontes said he would not run for Congress.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes is running for re-election.

In a video posted on social media, Fontes told voters he plans to seek a second term as Secretary of State "to continue fighting for AZ and defending our democratic process."

“We've got to have strong, stalwart, responsible leadership to stay the course when it comes to running good elections in Arizona," Fontes said. "2024 may not have seen the results that some of us wanted, but at the end of the day, your vote counted, and that's what's most important to me.”

Over recent weeks, Fontes considered running for Congress after Raul Grijalva died. But took a step back after a recent executive order from President Donald Trump targeted elections. A section of the order requires documentary proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections–an issue still being debated.

"It is clear to me that our party must fight harder and stand up to the rising tide of fascism sweeping this nation," Fontes said in March.

Fontes has already received the support of Senator Mark Kelly, who announced his endorsement shortly after.

"Now more than ever, we need leaders committed to upholding the integrity of our elections and safeguarding our democracy," Kelly said.
